Simple Introduction
This set of exercises comes from Teacher Zhang Haibo of the Acupuncture and Tuina College at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. Teacher Zhang’s main research direction is the clinical basics and application research of traditional Chinese qigong, and he is also an instructor for the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Qigong Association.
When I took the elective Traditional Chinese Qigong course, Teacher Zhang taught us this exercise set—Relaxation Gong.
This exercise is very simple; just relax from head to toe once. At first, follow the teacher’s guided words (download link below), then silently recite in your mind, and later, you can relax just with a thought. Personally, I think this is easier to get started with than standing meditation or seated meditation, with almost no precautions and almost no side effects.
However, I want to remind you that during practice of this type of quiet qigong, you might become distracted, think of something, have an emotion arise, hear sounds or see colors, etc. Don’t worry about it, just keep practicing attentively and it will naturally disappear. If there is anything that continuously troubles you, feel free to message me privately for discussion.
(I don’t remember where the teacher learned this from; he seemed to have mentioned it but I don’t clearly recall. If anyone knows, please leave a comment.)
