Many people want to apply for software copyright but don’t know where to start. After referring to numerous blog tutorials, I finally understood the detailed process and precautions. I am recording it here.
I applied for a WeChat mini program, and the application date was March 12, 2021.
Before applying for software copyright, you only need to prepare two documents: source code documentation and software user manual or design specification (templates are provided at the end of the article).
Software copyright application is done on the website of the China Copyright Office. Below is the website entrance:

If you have not registered before, you need to register an account first by clicking “Register” in the upper right corner.
If applying for yourself, just select “Individual”.
Fill in the required information as requested. The login afterward uses your phone number and password; remember your password. Once submitted, registration is successful. After logging in, it will automatically redirect to the homepage:
Select Computer Software Copyright related registration.
Then select R11 Computer Software Copyright Application. If you have not completed real-name authentication, clicking will redirect you to the real-name authentication page. After filling out relevant information, authentication takes 1-3 days to complete:
Select “I am the applicant”:
Fill in the information. The full software name and its abbreviation cannot be the same. The version number can be V1.0 or simply 1.0 (the information in the image is just an example; fill in according to your software information):
Fill in software development information. Note: If you need to add multiple authors, select “Collaborative Development,” upload a cooperative development agreement (template provided at the end), and after choosing collaborative development, you can add other copyright holders below in the copyright holder section. Other copyright holders must also register on this website and complete real-name authentication. The number of certificate copies should match the number of other authors:
Then proceed to the software functions and features page. A few points to note: The main software functions should preferably exceed 100 words, and software technical features should have at least 50 words. If the source code exceeds 3000 lines, the uploaded source code document below must be 61 pages, with 50 lines per page. If fewer than 3000 lines, the source code document can be less than 61 pages. Below is my reference entry:
Upload the source code document under program identification material, and upload the software manual under document identification material (templates for these two documents will be provided at the end):

After filling in, click next to enter the information confirmation page. Only the lower part needs filling here. Only one page of the identity card copy is required, remember to print it on one page, the number of other documents’ pages will be filled automatically. These materials will need to be printed and mailed to them offline later. After filling this page, the website will automatically generate the application form; save and download it for printing. All materials must be printed single-sided:
Choose mailing, select registered mail for certificate collection, add the mailing address, click save and submit your application to complete it.
Then go to the user center to check the application record and download the application form:
Finally, print out all the materials single-sided! For many pages, do not staple; just clip them and mail them to the aforementioned address. After that, wait for them to process it, which usually takes about two to three months.
