71. Patrinia scabiosaefolia
The taste is salty, feeling slightly stronger than saline solution, then bitter, and finally a lingering flavor similar to reed.
Effects: Clears heat and detoxifies, activates blood circulation and removes stasis, and promotes pus discharge and ulcer healing. These three effects are integrated; the clearing energy can be directed locally to help the ulcer break and heal. Main sites of action: lungs, spleen and stomach, lower abdomen (intestines, uterus, bladder, and a bit also to the testicles), as well as the skin (used externally in a concentrated decoction).
71.1 Mutouhui
The reason this herb is called “Mutouhui” is conjectured to be closely related to Patrinia scabiosaefolia, as this herb has a proper rotting smell.
Liu Jiayu mentioned a foot odor, which is somewhat accurate, but I think it’s more like the smell of clothes left un-dried after washing in summer.
However, this herb smells bad but doesn’t taste bad; initially salty on the palate, then a stimulus similar to 502 glue, and the aftertaste is somewhat like the lingering flavor after chewing sour jujube seeds.
I will ask the medicinal research group to prepare a list showing various origins, telling everyone which origin we are trying.
Currently, this type feels primarily effective for the middle burner—spleen and stomach—but it also has energy that penetrates inward, breaking up stasis and turbidities, and repairing tissue.
72. Belamcanda chinensis
I have said many times that this herb should be pronounced as “yè” (射).
Mount Miaogu Ye is a distant mountain covered with various fungi (lingzhi) and various exotic flowers (iris, etc.).
The taste is quite special, salty, bitter, and sweet all appear; salty disappears first, then sweet, bitterness remains until the end, and after chewing the taste, there is a sticky feeling in the mouth similar to after drinking iced black tea.
Its effects are strong and clear: clears phlegm, turbidities, and stasis in the lungs, repairs lung collaterals, and has a relatively good effect on lung nodules, which concerns many patients.
