59. Indigo naturalis
Although I have never eaten soil, the moment Indigo naturalis entered my mouth, I think I roughly understood what the texture of soil is like.
It’s also hard to evaluate the taste when soaked in water; the flavor is very complex. I barely found a few corresponding tastes in my flavor database: a bit salty and bitter, with some roasted aroma, a rotten smell, and the aftertaste somewhat resembles a porridge made from fully gelatinized rice.
It’s really hard to accept. I can chew all kinds of poisonous insects, but Indigo naturalis is completely instinctively rejected by my body. There is a kind of ominous feeling that drinking it would block the meridians.
With this resistance, I couldn’t open the “air gate,” so I couldn’t sense the medicinal properties. This time, I will stop at describing the taste.
(It doesn’t necessarily mean this herb is no good. It could be that the modern processing was a bit off. I’ll talk about it again if fate allows later. If anyone has sensed anything from it, please share more.)
60. Cynanchum otophyllum
Chewing it directly is very astringent; soaked in water, the taste is acceptable. The main tone even has a slight sweetness; bitterness and astringency are more superficial.
Effects: Clears heat, detoxifies, cools the blood, harmonizes the stomach and soothes the liver; mainly acts on the middle burner, calming the spleen and stomach, alleviating inflammation of the liver and gallbladder, and has a slight effect on the upper burner’s lungs (10%). Through the stomach and gallbladder meridians, it can clear some turbidity and toxins from the head and face; through liver and spleen, it relieves heat symptoms throughout the body.
The remarkable thing is that this herb itself supports the righteous Qi simultaneously, moisturizing wherever it travels, not recklessly aggressive.
63. Wild Chrysanthemum
Smelling it directly or soaking it in water both give a fresh fragrance. Drinking the water tastes mainly bitter, with sour and pungent notes.
Effects: Purges stagnant heat and toxins from the upper, middle, and lower burners; soothes liver and disperses lung congestion; unblocks and benefits the twelve meridians; benefits the throat and brightens the eyes. Upon the first sip, the Qi is carried all the way down to the perineum and immediately flows upward from the back; the entire bladder meridian and governing vessel tingle, reaching the back of the neck and scalp, making it a godly herb that triggers ASMR.
Other meridians of the hands and feet feel a refreshing breeze-like sensation. Students who have attended the “Inner Canon” classes should know what this implies. So far, this is the herb with the strongest sensation I have experienced. I don’t know if it’s because it’s inherently extraordinary or it just happens to resonate with me (my natal spiritual plant).
