366. Stiff Silkworm
Vinegar was used in the processing, and the water it soaked produced a sour taste; overall, it was quite pleasant and refreshing. Chewing it directly also tastes good, with a flavor similar to spicy dried fish snacks, along with a hint of bean product aroma. I also detected a trace of mulberry leaf flavor, which makes sense since silkworms feed on mulberry leaves—their excrement smells like mulberry leaves, so it’s not surprising that their bodies have a bit of that smell.
After drinking, within 5 seconds, tingling started at the back of the neck, the back of the head, and the crown, with a clear traveling sensation. Taking another sip, the numbing sensation gradually developed into a slight prickling feeling—not painful or uncomfortable, but a sense of energy attacking the afflicted areas, with the range extending to the face. A side effect is some stomach discomfort, somewhat similar to eating too much radish.
Efficacy: Promotes Qi circulation, activates blood, and unblocks the channels. It is also recommended to decoct and chew separately.
366.2 Male Silkworm Moth
A silkworm grown to half the size of a young man; the taste of the decoction is indeed much stronger. It has a typical insect flavor, nothing much to say, somewhat fishy and mildly unpleasant.
After drinking, the stomach discomfort clearly intensified compared to before but remained manageable and not unbearable. The moment it was swallowed, the sensation traveled along the back, neck, and back of the head to the crown, then descended along the Ren Meridian, passing through the face, throat, and sternum, finally returning to the Dantian. This whole process completed within 15 seconds, equivalent to giving someone insensitive to the meridians a guided tour through the Ren and Du Meridians (except for a small section from the tailbone to the Jiaji vertebrae). The Qi ultimately gathers in the Dantian, so it can help with semen retention and boosting yang. After taking it, do not remain in one place, nor force sexual activity; otherwise, the Ren and Du Meridians could become more blocked and the three kinds of Jing (essence) more deficient (mainly damaging earth and human essences). It is advisable to do some jogging or stretch muscles and tendons in the correct posture to help unblock the meridians.
Efficacy: Unblocks the Ren and Du Meridians, retains human essence, and aids erectile function.
370. Acorus
The taste is bitter with a spicy note, similar to the cooling sensation of Zhejiang Ophiopogon and Asparagus cochinchinensis (a cooling sensation that isn’t actually cold). The flavor is intense, causing slight numbness on the tip of the tongue and throat; on closer tasting, there is a slight sweetness.
After drinking, the sensation starts at the throat and spreads to both ears, the back of the head, the crown, the temples, as well as the neck and mid-upper back; there is a feeling of pressure inside the skull, with a strong and lasting effect. On the other hand, the heart and lungs are also unblocked and experience a certain clearing effect.
Efficacy: Unblocks the orifices of the head and face (ear > nose > eyes > tongue), unblocks the brain, and clears the heart and lungs.
