Hematuria concept

Visible hematuria becomes obvious when there is more than 1 mL of blood per liter of urine. Gross hematuria may appear as fresh blood, blood clots, or resemble meat-washing water. The color of gross hematuria varies depending on the amount of bleeding and the pH of the urine. Heavy bleeding results in a dark and concentrated urine color; acidic urine appears brown-black, brown, soy sauce-colored, or dark tea-colored; alkaline urine appears bright red, pink, or like meat-washing water.
