Biota Leaf (Ce Bai Ye)

  1. Biota Leaf

The scent is somewhat similar to Biota Seed Kernel (Bai Zi Ren), both have a pine and cypress aroma. After brewing, there is a slight bitterness on the palate, a mid-note of pine and cypress scent, and a sweet aftertaste.

After drinking, there is a refreshing sensation in the chest cavity and below the diaphragm, with a clearing effect on turbidity. About 3 minutes later, the stomach, lower abdomen, and lower back also feel cleared.

Effects: Clears the lungs, heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, intestines, and blood.

248. White Cogongrass Root (Bai Mao Gen)

As long as it is sweet, it is a good medicine. If you have never tasted water boiled with corn, you can roughly get an idea from its brewed water.

After drinking, the body feels moisturized, benefiting the lungs and stomach the most, followed by the kidneys.

Effects: Supplements lung fluid, stomach fluid (not stomach acid), and kidney fluid, providing moisturizing and repairing effects.

249. Ramie Root (Zhu Ma Gen)

The smell and taste have some resemblance to Gaoliangjiang (Alpinia officinarum), but overall it is mainly bitter and astringent.

It is quite cold in nature; after drinking there is a noticeable coolness, but mild and balanced, just enough not to extinguish the fire. The cooling sensation is mainly on the front side of the body (lower abdomen > stomach area > front chest), which can basically be understood as specific to the Conception Vessel (Ren Mai).

Effects: Treats hematuria caused by urinary tract inflammation (does not work for renal-origin hematuria), treats fetal heat and restlessness (15-30 grams used alone), can also somewhat treat gastritis; generally not used for pneumonia.
