37. Commelina (Duckweed Plant)

Tastes like black tea, slightly bitter, pleasant to drink, and not unpleasant even when drinking in large gulps.

Quickly passes through the urinary system, can treat all urinary infections causing difficulty in urination, dripping, and pain. Also has some effect on prostatitis.

38. Gardenia

I am currently not satisfied with the fragmentation level of the gardenia; it can definitely be procured in better condition, for example, a whole open-petal gardenia, but the procedures are too troublesome, which is a hurdle for a single herb. For now, this does not affect efficacy, so I let it be.

Purely bitter, not pleasant to drink, but the bitterness is short-lived and doesn’t linger unpleasantly in the mouth like some other herbs.

Confirmed effects: clears heart fire. Here, clearing heart fire is not only on the Qi level but also on the spirit level—inner agitation and confusion, pressure from looming deadlines, the burning ambition akin to the southern Ming Dynasty’s desperate flames—gardenia can settle it all.

It also clears turbid toxins throughout the body, including but not limited to the liver, stomach, bladder, large intestine, and various meridians.

Strong staining, comparable to saffron; rinse mouth and brush teeth promptly after drinking.

39. Prunella (Self-heal)

During the last round of trying herbs, some students exclaimed “Wang Laoji” after drinking it, which was quite amusing—I still remember it.

Its heat-clearing and detoxifying effects are confirmed and gentle. The first sip sends a feeling of air streaming down to below the jaw and front neck, a gentle breeze.

The first choice for clearing inflammation of the submandibular lymph nodes and thyroid, combined with seaweed, Zhejiang fritillary, and scrophularia.

For treating hypertension and sleep disorders associated with excessive heart and liver fire, Prunella is used, combined with pinellia and millet.

The effect on improving vision seems insignificant, most likely a secondary effect of clearing liver fire.
