Z-Library (abbreviated as Z-Lib, formerly known as BookFinder) is a shadow library and open-access file-sharing initiative where users can download journal articles and books of various types. According to Z-Library, as of June 12, 2022, it hosted 10,456,034 books and 84,837,646 articles. On its e-book search page, Z-Library claims to be the “world’s largest digital library,” and on its article search page, it describes itself as the “world’s largest scientific article repository.” It originally began as a mirror site of Library Genesis and acquired most of its collection from that library. However, some of its holdings were uploaded directly by users and are not part of Library Genesis’ collection. Its public domain was blocked by the U.S. government on November 3, 2022. Users regained access to Z-Library on February 11, 2023.
