[Repost] Discussing the Martial Arts Techniques I Have Practiced

Recommended Words

@玉庐 has really rich learning experience. To elaborate on these cultivation methods would probably require several articles, but since he doesn’t want to talk about them online, please privately message him offline if you want to know more.

This is the author’s first push of the new semester. Originally, the plan was to elaborate on “affordable therapies.” Later, a reader left a message in the background asking the author to talk about the cultivation methods he has practiced.

Additionally, the author’s friend, after reading the previous articles of the public account, privately messaged on WeChat asking why not discuss certain XX issues (basically some religion-related topics). So the author will also respond to those here today.

Why didn’t the author discuss these issues before?

The first, of course, is the fear of account suspension. The author not talking about it doesn’t mean he doesn’t know or isn’t aware—many times it’s really simple; it’s just the fear of being blocked. Those who understand, understand, no more explanation needed.

The second is that talking about it is useless. Trying to learn these things from a public account is extremely ridiculous. This is even more ridiculous than trying to learn Traditional Chinese Medicine knowledge from case reports on public accounts. Promoting these things online is pointless and very likely to mislead others. And the author’s principle in writing the public account is “better to have no results than to have errors.” Therefore, in many places, the author does not express personal views but presents both sides for readers to think for themselves. Regarding promoting cultivation methods, if the author himself goes wrong in practice, that’s one thing, but misleading readers would be a serious crime.

Previously, the author saw many people widely publicizing cultivation methods on many public accounts. The author believes these things still need to be learned offline. Many things are hard to explain and must be guided on site. For example, some people don’t know if the phenomena and feelings they experience during practice are normal or signs of deviation. Guiding only through the internet is easy to lead to deviations or even “going into demonic possession” (no quotation marks here, those who understand, understand).

Now let’s get to the main topic.

Which cultivation methods has the author practiced or learned?

Those not explained in detail below are because the teachers said not to. Although the author likes to popularize paid knowledge, he also respects his teachers. If the teacher explicitly forbids or there is a signed agreement, the author won’t say too much.

Most of the cultivation method names below have been converted into more understandable terms.

  1. Daoist Cultivation Methods:

  2. A certain narrowly defined purely natural and non-action (Wu Wei) method.

  3. Broadly defined Wu Wei methods: including sightseeing, breath listening, natural microcosmic orbit circulation, etc.

  4. A certain microcosmic orbit breathing method (different from the above microcosmic orbit)

  5. Breath absorption methods (two kinds)

  6. A certain internal alchemy method

  7. “Seed gathering and refining nourishment”

  8. Opening the crown

  9. Storage and visualization

  10. Buddhist Cultivation Methods:

  11. Breath guarding (various types)

  12. Calm abiding and insight meditation (Shamatha and Vipassana)

The author has never learned Confucian cultivation methods. Does Confucianism really have cultivation methods?

  1. Dynamic Cultivation Methods:

  2. Yi Jin Jing (Three types)

  3. Tai Chi

  4. Five Elements Palm

  5. Vajra (Diamond) Gong

  6. Modern Cultivation Methods:

Breath stretching, intention observation, body and spirit stabilization, wall squatting, relaxation exercises, and many others that are hard to explain.

Folk cultivation methods are too varied and obscure; most are patched together from bits and pieces picked here and there.

  1. Healing Methods:

Clear mind and body technique

Currently learning: Qi Holding Through the Crown

Currently regularly practicing: a certain Yi Jin Jing, breath guarding, body relaxation

There may be omissions because many learned methods were forgotten after long periods of no practice.

Some may ask, what are the author’s feelings and experiences practicing cultivation?

When the author first started practicing, he learned many various folk and religious cultivation methods with all sorts of intentional guidance. After communication with many classmates and friends around him, he now advocates not using any subjective intentional guidance and not paying attention to any feelings.

The author knows many people may have many thoughts after reading this article. For example, “Do you really have that many teachers?” “Have you ever had any deviation?” “What is the use of practicing so many, and what achievements do you have?”

If you sincerely want to communicate offline, please reply in the background.

If you’re just looking for trouble, then none of the above questions concern you, and you need not worry or care.
