Why aren’t nurses allowed to measure blood sugar? I suddenly realized that in the hospital hierarchy, the lowest tier isn’t the nurses but the interns and residents in standardized training. Nurses have been around long enough that even doctors don’t dare to offend them, whereas the newcomers with little status can indeed be ordered around to do the hard work, as they might bear the least consequences.
This is just how reality is, but I think we can try to face it from a different angle. When measuring blood sugar, you can also ask about the patient’s condition. However, if you need to ask everyone in an entire ward, it will take more time, so just select a few cases to follow up on continuously.
Slacking Off Technique:
- When going to get medicine, retrieve medical records, or running various errands, these are all rest times and generally not urgent matters. You can take this opportunity to leave the ward building to make phone calls or watch videos. Taking a ten-minute walk but spending half an hour is perfectly fine.
