Today I heard a few workplace stories from newcomers, quite interesting.
One was complaining, saying that after joining the company, the leader always painted a rosy picture, only talking about a bright future. They introduced so-called equity incentives, which basically meant that due to the current poor economic situation, everyone’s bonuses were uncertain. The leader expressed empathy, saying that if we get through this period, we will all get better. Some previously promised rewards might be replaced with shares, and so on;
Another was lamenting that their department leader had given up.
Since the department isn’t making money, the director doesn’t bother fighting for anything anymore. After all, the basic salary is enough for them. They simply don’t care about development or not. Everyone in the department does whatever they want. The director just acts like a hands-off manager, as long as no trouble comes their way.
This really hurts the newcomers just starting out. We all get basic salaries: you get a few thousand, and I also get a few thousand. But you can afford to save with a salary of seven or eight thousand, while I can’t survive on two thousand!!
