SMAS Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System
It was previously thought that the epicranial aponeurosis ended at the forehead, but in fact, it extends downward and merges with the facial muscles.
The distribution of the Taiyang Meridian on the face seems to somewhat overlap with this.
Hand Yangming Stomach Meridian and Mandibular Nerve
The mandibular nerve runs downward to become the inferior alveolar nerve, which supplies sensation to the lower teeth; similarly, the Hand Yangming Stomach Meridian does as well.
Its branches go from the supraclavicular fossa, along the neck, traverse the cheek, and enter the lower teeth.
However, the mandibular nerve is a branch of the trigeminal nerve emerging from the cranial cavity, while the Hand Yangming Stomach Meridian runs upward from the hand; the two do not seem to overlap.
So why can the Hand Yangming Stomach Meridian treat lower tooth pain?
